In Swiss cinemas from January 27th 2006 |
Cinedrome presents screenings of RANG DE BASANTI in Swiss cinemas, starting on the same weekend as in India! The latest film with Lagaan star Aamir Khan is currently one of the most eagerly awaited and talked about movies in India and among Bollywood fans worldwide. RANG DE BASANTI – a generation awakens is a strong story about the youth of India today, a generation partly leading a self centered and materialistic existence and not believing that they could make a change for a better and juster society. In the movie the young British film maker Sue (Alice Payton) comes to India and hires a group of five friends to follow her on the paths of the great Indian revolutionaries Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and their contemporaries who were fighting for the independence of their country. They go on a trip through the present India, but visit the great spots where the history of a new, independent and self-confident state was written, they take a ritual bath at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, they travel through a countryside to places, which they almost have forgotten to exist, where still traditions dominate the lives. By and by they realize how the spirit of rebellion transcends time and age and learn that it is worth standing up for ones beliefs also in the present. Rang De Basanti features great contemporary music by A.R. Rahman (Lagaan) and is outstanding in combining a modern visual style with fantastic pictures of India. We will show Rang De Basanti in all the cities we usually do screenings, details will be announced here and on our mailing list.
Karan (Siddharth), the son of a wealthy Industrialist, has an uncomfortable relationship with his father, but continues to live off him. This is the big contradiction in his live, because the cynical loner has distinct anti-establishment sights. Aslam (Kunal Kapoor), is a middle class Muslim boy, who lives in the bylanes near Jama Masjid, poet, philosopher and guide to his friends. Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), the group's baby, innocent, vulnerable and with a weakness for only one thing - girls. Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni), the fundamentalist in the group, the only one who still believes that politics can make the world a better place. Sonia (Soha Ali
Khan) - the sole girl in the group, tomboy and vivacious
spirit, engaged to Ajay (Madhavan) - the dashing air pilot. |
